President Hakainde Hichilema has launched the 8th National Development Plan which is Zambia’s medium-term blueprint designed to unlock the country’s potentials in all sectors of the economy for sustainable, holistic and inclusive national development.
Speaking at the launch in Lusaka today, President Hichilema says National Development must go beyond growing the economy, which is an important pre-requisite, but also ensuring that citizens in all parts of the country are at the center of everything that government does.
The head of state is confident that through the four strategic development areas identified in the plan, namely, economic transformation and job creation, human and social
development, environmental sustainability and good governance environment, it will help to address the economic and social ills affecting the country.
President Hichilema says the plan whose theme is “socio-economic transformation for improved livelihoods”, is anchored on key measures targeted at addressing the debt problem, providing free education, scaling up social safety nets, and taking service delivery and resources closer to the people.
Earlier, Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane said the 8th NDP sets out Zambia’s strategic direction, development priorities and implementation of strategies for the period 2022 to 2026 and will play a pivotal role as a building block towards the attainment of the national vision.
